Science and Religion

Religion and Science are at odds with each other. If you think they are in harmony then you are completely delusional. Science tells us about the big bang theory and evolution. Religion is about creationism, Adam and Eve, and God who created it all. According to religious beliefs earth and its species were created a few thousand years ago. So we are supposed to overlook all the scientific evidence that the universe and our planet was created billions of years ago and believe in some story that something called God created it all.

There exist billions of galaxies and therefore billions and billions of stars and planets, and we are to believe that god created them all but for some reason he only cared about this one small planet called the Earth! Statistically there must be many other planets with various forms of species in far away galaxies. Of course due to time and distance we have not been able to find evidence of life in other planets. Now if there is a god who controls the universe why didn’t he tell the rest of us about his other projects in this vast universe? Why couldn’t he tell his “profits” that the earth is not flat and we had to wait for a scientist to figure that out? I could come up with millions of whys, but I’m sure you get the point!

By the way, isn’t it interesting that god is a he? Sounds like a man made concept, doesn’t it?  Otherwise even if such a thing as god does exist it can’t be a man or a woman. It would not be an earthly kind but rather a form of energy which controls the universe!

Majority of people of our planet have some sort of religious belief. Some are moderates and some are radicals. Some have extreme views about their religion and god, and some practice more liberal form of spirituality. The question that arises is that why many of the highly intelligent and learned human beings, including scientist, still choose to believe in superstitious rather than facts.

Dale Carnegie wrote, in one of his books, that after he went to college, and learned about evolution and many other scientific theories and facts, he realized that religious beliefs are not logical. As he was speaking of his new real revelations with the public he noticed that he is becoming more and more isolated from the society and does not receive the same degree of respect as when he was a church regular. Also he was personally more concerned about issues of life and death: What is the purpose of life? What happens to us after we die? After many years of acting as an atheist, Dale Carnegie decided to go back to church and become a “believer” again. According to Carnegie, he did not embrace religion because of its authenticity but rather as a refuge from the worldly matters.

Similar way of thinking, state of mind, and the overall affects radiated from the politics and business of god and religion are some of the reasons that even many scientists do believe in god even though they know very well that religion and science are at complete odds with each other. What is very unfortunate and somewhat scary is that, with all the recent advancements in science and technology, religion and business of god is as strong as ever and keeps on recruiting new soldiers. So Stay tuned….
